Medical tourism in Poland has an over two hundred years history.
Our country is mainly known for its superb health resorts situated in places offering unique, on a European scale, healing conditions.
Since Poland entered the EU polish hopsitals become more and more popular.
Medical services given by the polish medical centers, working within the framework of public health care system, apply to all citizens of EEA and Switzerland who have the so called European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or a form being a proof that the given person is eligible to medical services within the social security framework of his/her own country. In the case of having the EHIC card, it also constitutes a proof of agreement of the insurance provider to cover costs of essential / indispensable treatment for medical reasons, during a stay abroad.
If the person who leaves his/her country does not get proper documents before leaving the country, he/she does not lose the right to the possibility of using the above mentioned regulations. However, in such a case it is necessary to enter into correspondence between the institution of the departure and mother country.
Lack of appropriate documents might result in the necessity of covering the treatment costs by the patient himself.
